It was good to read about how you stay sane with some commenting guidelines. I have a question about Do Follow. Finally I think I get it after reading your post three times.

But what is the downside to doing that? I’ve heard that by being a Do Follow blog you somehow get less of a ranking with Google. Is that only when you’re connected to junk blogs?

Christa – step it up a notch and not only comment on other blogs, but link to them. Commenting is like waving hello as you walk down the sidewalk in front of someone’s house. Linking to them is like marching up on their front porch and ringing the doorbell. MUCH more effective in getting others’ attention. Linking tends to be reciprocal, too, but I apply the same criteria to linking as I do commenting. I do it when it’s appropriate, not just cuz someone linked to me.

You’re welcome, Barbara. Remembering our exchange about editing comments was such a good example to me of how we, as bloggers, are also others’ readers, and that we can use our experiences as readers out there in the blogosphere to help make better the experience our own readers have at our blogs.

I was waiting for you to chime in and rant about Blogger. I changed my commenting protocol accordingly but I noticed there seem to be an abundance of comments other bloggers leave for each other on the Blogger Blogs. I feel like a lonely kid on the school yard and no one wants to play with me. Makes me wanna eat worms. *laughing*

I noticed commenting on other blogs brings traffic to my site but honestly, even with Statcounter, I am underwhelmed about the new visitors. My conclusion: my content isn’t resonating with people. Obviously, this is my issue. I have a meeting with me, myself and I this afternoon to talk about the challenges. I hope everyone shows up on time.

I do like CommentLuv and think it’s been useful directing people my way.

I gotta find out what Naomi is doing to make 6 figures! I’m off to check out her blog!

The best part of this blog post was your suggestion to “Write to Encourage Comments”. I often say, “don’t ask, don’t get” so thanks for reminding me.

Such solid advice. I love the CommentLuv plugin. It's such a win-win. It encourages comments and the person who comments also gets to plug their latest post, as well. It's my favorite plugin for building community. BTW: Thank you for the mention. And yes, I love the WP Ajax Edit comments plugin. I'm so happy you told me about it.
