These scared bank customers willingly fill in their usernames, existing passwords and choose new passwords, thinking they’re changing their login to their bank account – but what is really happening is the hacker is capturing their username and existing passwords…and then can log into the bank account legitimately – without raising any red flags…and steal the money! The hacker has no expenses and doesn’t worry about getting caught because…

Not really. And particularly not when it’s your site that it happens to. And even worse, sometimes you can’t tell just by looking that you’ve been hacked. So, not knowing you’re helping someone steal from others, you hum along…business as usual. In my client’s case, an email from the bank is how she found out what was going on! Can you imagine the range of emotions she went through reading that?!

But not all hacking occurrences are for illegal purposes.
